Frank McCoppin Elementary
San Francisco, CA

“The Pearl of the Richmond District”, Frank McCoppin Elementary in San Francisco was founded over a century ago. In 2017, the school received a $10 million overhaul that freshly remodeled and modernized the entire campus. For this bond-funded, plan-spec project, Sunbelt Controls provided extensive renovations to the existing classroom HVAC units and control solutions for the new HVAC units, which were located on the recently constructed wing that houses several classrooms.

Distech Controls hardware was utilized for zone level controls in the classrooms, however one challenge we faced was the Daikin VRV system (a multi-split type air conditioner) being used to maintain individual zone control in each room of the administration building. This 3 unit system was daisy chained to a LONworks frontend. We knew that from our experience working with schools in the San Francisco Unified School District – and school districts across the West Coast in general – that connectivity and communication between all systems on any given campus is paramount. So while integration with the Daikin VRV system was not an option, Sunbelt Controls added zone monitoring thru the Daikin controller gateway.
