The 450,000 SF Pavilion acommodates 500 to 600 patients each day and houses outpatient services for the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute, neurosciences, Regenerative Medicine Institute and other clinical specialties, as well as outpatient procedure suites. Its innovative design brings patient care and translational research together in one place, allowing physicians and scientists to collaborate closely in developing new procedures and treatments.

General Contractor Hathaway Dinwiddie headed the BIM 3-D modeling and coordination process. The development of system models was smooth during pre-construction, though it became clear there were major conflicts in the building. ACCO’s team worked closely with the mechanical engineer to create efficient layouts, alternate routing and other engineered solutions to help the model work while reducing associated costs. The entire BIM coordination process was very challenging due to the size and complexity of the project. ACCO detailers were vital to the process, using their expertise to provide solutions to conflicts and issues that arose during coordination.
ACCO was instrumental in assisting Hathaway Dinwiddie with the development of a sequencing plan for logistics, stocking and installation of the complex mechanical systems. The efficient planning allowed ACCO to meet or exceed its anticipated productivity rates while helping Hathaway Dinwiddie accelerate the construction schedule.
In total, the sheet metal crew installed 1.1 million pounds of sheet metal, including 200,000 pounds of colossal roof duct supported by 8’ x 8’ tubular steel frames 15’ above the roof. The largest of the rooftop duct is a 264” x 78” supply duct.
