Roche Diagnostics | Pleasanton, CA

PROJECT BACKGROUND

Roche has grown into one of the world’s largest biotech companies, as well as a leading provider of in-vitro diagnostics and a global supplier of transformative innovative solutions across major disease areas.

In 2021, Sunbelt Controls was awarded a campus-wide project to upgrade the building automation system at Roche’s campus in Pleasanton, California. The multi-building and central plant building automation system (BAS) upgrade will ensure that Roche research labs continue to develop new solutions for diseases of the future.

PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

The campus consists of 5 buildings and 387,645 SF of office, Kitchen/Cafeteria, and lab spaces. Sunbelt was contracted to replace the existing BAS operating system with ALC WebCNTL, 33 equipment controllers, and over 900 zone/lab controllers.

One of the major challenges of this project was migrating over a legacy building automation system and controllers to a new Automated Logic BAS platform while avoiding downtime and disruptions to operations, especially in critical areas such as labs where live experiments are taking place.

WHAT SUNBELT CONTROLS DELIVERED

With careful planning and coordination with Roche Facilities, Lab Supervisors, and our internal team, Sunbelt Controls developed a plan that satisfied all stakeholders.

Our talented technicians provided a very detailed site survey of existing conditions to avoid major oversight or gaps prior to any cutover activities. Our staff of engineers and technicians are experienced with the legacy BAS system were able to dive deep into the legacy software and hardware to develop solutions and overcome any challenges along the way.

Equipment that was able to operate standalone during the control’s migration was placed in hand for live cutovers. The equipment serving critical areas was scheduled for the weekend for adjusted hours to avoid occupant downtime.

Sunbelt Controls is uniquely qualified for these types of challenging projects due to our highly skilled and experienced technicians, programmers, and engineers and our flexibility to work within our customer’s schedules.
